Below (left), the Fractional Process simulator allows one person to interact with one or more virtual, or one or more real, participants in a real-time event. This might open the way to proliferation of newer procedures and the practice of high-impact but low-frequency procedures via the Internet. (right) The Selectable Instruments simulator effects an interaction with virtual anatomy which includes visual and tactile elements, resulting in true "tactile graphics." The methods shown in this second patent may be key to accomplishing realistic simulation of open as opposed to keyhole surgeries.
